Merchants in Veracruz denounce “false deliver people” who commit crimes at the port.
A man and woman were heard asking “Where’s the account” when they entered a Veracruz store to rob an employer. Both of them were riding a motorcycle with an orange backpack bearing the logo for the Rappi delivery service.
Images of the robbery have been spread on Twitter by @_allislas (X, formerly Twitter), the alleged owner who installed security cameras in her establishment to protect staff.
It makes me feel very helpless and sad to publish this, but today my shop was the victim a robbery. He published: “They took all of the merchandise and money out of the cashier, the iPad, and the cell phone belonging to my friend and worker.”
The video shows how two “fake Rappi” delivery men intimidate and threaten the employee into giving them money. Seconds after, they start searching for valuable items. The whole thing happened within a few minutes and the two assailants did not remove their motorcycle helmets to avoid being identified.
This business is a makeup outlet named “Nenis” located in Veracruz. It adds to more than 3,500 crimes against business that have been reported in this port so far in 2018.
The owner of the store said that although no guns were visible in the video it was an armed burglary. Fortunately, nobody was injured.
He said, “Luckily, my friend is okay. Although they had a weapon in hand, and threatened her with it, these were just material and financial losses. But, those are losses that come from work and sacrifice.”
The owner of a stolen store indicated through her social media that other owners had sent videos of the same assailants committing the same robberies using the same method.
In one of his comments, the Rappi driver wrote that he too worked for the company and recognized the attackers.
He indicated that, due to the events described above, he had filed a report with the authorities in order to identify the culprits and recover some value from what was taken. However, he didn’t specify the exact amount.
He also reported on several robberies that occurred in businesses around the area in recent months. This is why he urged the authorities to increase security in order to catch thieves using the viral images.
Other events in the state included a police chase on the Santa Fe – Paso del Toro Highway against a car theft gang that was trying to escape. The pursuit ended with the destruction of a patrol vehicle and several bullets.
The criminal gang fled on foot after abandoning the stolen car and leaving behind at least 100 shell casings. There were no arrests or injuries.
Two late-model vehicles were abandoned on the side of the road. One of these had more than twenty bullet holes.
A group of men armed with guns entered the laboratory in Boca del Rio, threatened staff members and customers, took their possessions, and made them lie down on the floor at gunpoint.
The authorities conducted surveillance to track down the perpetrators of the events but were unsuccessful.
