An incident that occurred in Penygwyndyn, Blaenau-Ffestiniog resulted in a 28-year old man being jailed.
Benjamin William Thomas Evans, of Blaenau-Ffestiniog, appeared before Mold Crown Court Tuesday, December 19 after having pleaded guilty to criminal damage, assault, and public nuisance.
Police responded to reports of a violent assault in the Penygwyndwn Estate area of Blaenau-Ffestiniog shortly before midnight on September 9th.
Evans, who was in attendance at the time, refused to leave the roof and threw roof tiles, damaging private property as well as vehicles.
This incident lasted 17 hours and caused fear in the area. One resident was struck by a roofing tile, and another could not bring home their baby from the hospital because of the danger.
A section of busy A470 was also closed because of the danger of hitting commuters.
Evans was arrested at 4:45pm, Sunday 10th September.
The sentence was three years, nine months.
Detective Constable Eifion patchett stated: “This event had a major impact both on the local community as well as emergency services.”
Evans’ irresponsible behaviour placed the residents of Penygwyndwn, Ffordd Manod and other nearby towns at risk and forced the closure of an important section of the main road. It also caused significant damage to several police cars.
