A memorial service was held Monday in Chicago for the fallen firefighter Andrew Price.
One week has passed since Lt. Price, 39, was fatally injured in an inferno in Lincoln Park.
Price fell through a skylight on the roof of a building with four stories in the area of 2400 Lincoln Avenue. Price was opening ventilation holes when he fell into a skylight.
Price had been a firefighter for 14 years. On a grey day, he received his final goodbye from the community at Navy Pier’s grand ballroom as stinging winds whipped off Lake Michigan.
Price’s remains were received with a solemn salute. As it approached Navy Pier, fire engine 55 was adorned with his bunker gear.

Price, who was a top truck driver and a fire academy trainer, was the best-known person in the world.
Annette Nance Holt, CFD commissioner said: “What I understand about Drew is that he united people.” He brought people of different races, classes and backgrounds together. He cared.”
His colleagues praised his courage, compassion, and strength.
Dustin Jeffers, a firefighter, said that Jeffers was “always complimenting others and doing little things for them.” He was selfless.
Price was told by his family that he had a childhood dream of becoming a firefighter. He has lived this dream in a remarkable way.
Jordan Price, Drew Price’s older brother, described him as “a natural caregiver at heart.” He couldn’t resist putting everyone else’s interests above his.
Price’s loved ones remember him doing a hand sign that read “hang loose”, and saying “Mahalo”. His life was devoted to expressing gratitude.
Jordan Price says that Drew would always hold his hand up in every picture he was in. He was full of positivity and adventure, with a sense of fun that was impossible to resist.
His infectious optimism and his rare gift of being always present with those he cared about will be remembered.
Price passed away just a few weeks before his birthday.
He was almost always the first firefighter to arrive at work, and he would greet his co-workers with “Good morning, My Guy.”
Price’s close friend, Battalion chief Pat Gallagher said, “Drew was sincere and pure. That’s what I saw in him.”
Price’s death marks the fourth member of the Chicago Fire Department to die in the course of their duties.
