After a fire started in the early hours of Monday, a woman managed to escape safely.
Scituate fire chief Mark Donovan reported that the 372 Clapp Road fire was first discovered shortly after 2:45 a.m., and at its height 35 firefighters were battling to put it out.
Donovan stated that the fire started in the basement of the home and spread to the second floor attic. Although the official cause of the fire hasn’t been determined yet, Donovan said that it is more than likely caused by electrical issues.
He said that the home had been in continuous ownership by the same family since its construction.
Donovan stated that the true effect of the fire was on the interior of the house. Workers were seen Monday morning repairing the roof.
Donovan stated that “the actual damage appears to be very minimal from the exterior.”
He said that the damage done to this home was estimated between $250,000.
He said that the house was heavily damaged by smoke and water.
He said that the homeowner was woken by fire alarms, and he made his way safely to safety outside.
Donovan stated that firefighters from Scituate and Norwell as well as Hull, Hull, Cohasset and Hingham along with Pembroke coverage, helped fight the fire.
He said that when he had a party he invited everyone.
As the dawn began to break, fire crews continued fighting the main fire and hot spots.
Donovan stated that the age of the house presented many challenges.
According to town assessors’ office information, he said that he didn’t know the fate of the house, which was valued at almost $875,000.
