An important house in Parkmill has been badly damaged by a fire that forced the closure of South Gower’s main road last weekend. A house fire was reported in the vicinity at 3am Sunday November 26. Later, the road near Parkmill’s Gower Inn was closed both ways.
WalesOnline has taken photos of the damage done to the house. The front door and roof are boarded. Smoke is evident in the area around the house two days after the fire. The upstairs of the house appears to have been destroyed by the fire from the exterior.
Due to the narrowness of the south Gower Road, the house is well known to many drivers. This can lead to traffic jams at peak times. Due to their proximity to the highway, the front steps of the houses jut out into the road.
Ollie Wild (36), a Parkmill resident, described the incident: “It happened in the middle of night. My mum was woken up by the chaos and noise of emergency services. The house, as far we are aware, was empty during the fire. “We want to find out how the fire started because it seemed random.”
A spokesperson from South Wales Police stated that on Sunday November 26th, police received a call just before 3:40am by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service regarding a reported house fire along the A4118 in Parkmill. On Sunday morning at 3am, six pumps and an air ladder were dispatched to Parkmill in Gower. Firefighters were sent back after the fire re-ignited.
